This policy explains how Exploreans handles personal data on exploreans.com, our brand website. Each of our places, Mara River Camp and Watamu Beach Club & Villas, has its own website and booking engine with its own privacy policy, which applies when you book or contact a place directly.

What we collect
We keep what we collect to a minimum. This website has no booking engine, no user accounts and no enquiry form.
- Your email address, if you subscribe to our letters in the footer of the site.
- Usage data, only if you accept analytics cookies: the pages you visit, how you arrived at the site, your approximate location (country or city), and your device and browser type. Google Analytics does not log or store full IP addresses.
- Technical data that every web server receives, such as your IP address, browser and the time of your visit. Our hosting provider uses it to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Messages you send us by email, for example to our press or careers addresses.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf and only on our instructions:
- Netlify, Inc. hosts this website and stores newsletter sign-ups.
- Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC provide Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, used only after you accept analytics cookies.
- Planhotel Hospitality Group companies, where needed to run Exploreans.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it.
International transfers
Netlify and Google may process data outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where they do, we rely on recognised safeguards, such as the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Frameworks or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter email addresses: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics data: 14 months from your last visit. Each visit starts the 14 months again.
- Messages: as long as needed to answer you and for any follow-up, and no longer than the law allows.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection law, including the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and the EU General Data Protection Regulation, gives you the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you
- have inaccurate data corrected
- have your data deleted
- object to or restrict how we use it
- receive your data in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it
To use any of these rights, write to privacy@planhotel.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), or the authority in the EU country where you live.

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. The site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
